Frontier(s) (Madman movie review)

frontiers

If you are as big a horror film fan as I am, then you will not be disappointed with Frontier(s).
This is pretty much one of the best horror films I’ve watched in recent years. The gore and detail of every scene was perfect, coupled with plenty of blood, makes the movie a heart stopper. Even I‘ve gone “OH MY GOD…” a few times during the movie (actually that an understatement).

Directed by Xavier Gens, its about a small gang of robbers taking the opportunity of a riot to rob a store but as things turn ugly, the team had to split up and meet at the French border. Little did they know, the motel they decided to meet at were hosted by sadistic cannibals of a Nazi family leaded by the deranged patriarch and former SS officer Le Von Geisler.

Cinematography
What I really like about this Frontier is the way it’s been shot. The use of close up’s and medium close ups throughout the film has been highly effective in terms of creating tension and suspense. I would like to explain the different scenes but I do not wish to spoil the movie for anyone so I’ll just stick to general phrasing.

I’d like to also menton that some of the long shots were very beautifully framed, which assisted in elevating the scene’s emotions and setting. Obviously the location they shot the film in had much to do with the outcome / result of the production as well. It was beautiful to watch.

Lighting
The lighting was immaculate and fit each and every scene perfectly. The lighting director did a great job in creating and emulating the mood of each scene with the lights beautifully, especially with the dark and lightly lit scenes. Underground and tunnel shots too.

Plots & story line
Although the plot & story line was quite predictable, it was never the less very entertaining & bloody.

What do you get when you put French film making with Horror?
Artistic, detailed and refined heart stopping gore with a tint of “perfection”. OH SO GOOD!

Rating: 9/10
Took 1 out because of the predictable story line. But honestly I’d give it a 10/10.

Strait Jacket (Madman Anime Review)

Noname2

Published by Fujimi Shobo, Strait Jacket (ストレイト・ジャケット Sutoreito Jaketto) is a series of Japenese manga comics and light novel series by Ichirō Sakaki with illustrations by Yō Fujishiro and was turned into a full length Anime. Since 2000 they have ran for ten volumes and have sold over half a million copies world wide.

illo02_400

This anime is solely based around the use of magic to assist with social and technological development around the world.
Tristan is the urban metropolis where the action is based and the Magic Administration Bureau is the organization thats behind all the experiments and also the employment of skilled warriors known as Tactical Sorcerists to protect the city from Demons.

This anime is beautifully illustrated especially battle sequences between tactical sorcerists & the demons. Each gun shot, head blowing, & arm cutting sequence is projected with great detail. Although the story line is some what predictable, it is still a great anime to watch with friends. I'd recommend not watching it with girls who cannot handle gore because Strait Jacket is like the Texas Chainsaw Massacre of anime (ok it might be a bit of an exaggeration), but I love the gore sequences.

Great plots and its clear that a lot of thought has been put into character design because its got great detail and substance. Plus the sceneries are stunning & well painted.

strait-jacket

This anime actually reminds me of one of the late 80's early 90's japanese superhero series which I use to watch when I was growing up as a kid. It definitely brought back alot of memories (wish i remembered what it was called).

Strait Jacket rating : 6/10
