Dance Energy

As a record collector and DJ, I love reviving the sounds of the past. I love the tracks that broke the barriers back in the day causing people of other eras to loose their shit something chronic.

Back in the 70s, 80s and 90s Australia wasn’t really up to speed in terms of what black music was doing. The UK on the other hand was filtering in elements of US dance and hip hop culture and immediately reshaping them as their own. UK house, hip hop, jungle and rave all had their own personalities and were also often linked closely together. These scenes exploded in the UK in late 80s and early 90s fueling a decade of club culture that produced so much good music.

I listen to this music all the time, but its not often you get a chance to glimpse what it was actually like to experience it - the vibes, the moves and of course the fashion element. Thanks to youtube this is now possible!

Here are some clips from Dance Energy, which is kind of a Top of the Pops for Dance music, much like Graffiti Rock was for hip hop in the early 80s.
